OHD STORY, est. 2018

Amanda Overton, Interior Decorator | Designer

I am a native Texan, born and raised in the style-centric city of Dallas and schooled in the beats of eclectic Austin, where I spent most of my time in bookstores, theaters and the culinary arts community.

I pursued an early career in the fine art gallery scene in New Orleans in the mid 90's. After living in the French Quarter sipping Ceylon Tea and researching local artists, I decided it was time to make the big move to NYC in 1997. Four years living and working in New York, traveling abroad, taking classes in fine art and design, antiques and sculpture, along with daily visits to museums during lunch breaks, I was inspired to focus my path toward interior design.

A natural direction, as from a young age I was observing and learning from my mother, an interior decorator and tastemaker, who introduced me to remodeling and residential design. I was fascinated as a child by the showrooms and galleries we would visit, drawn to the handwoven textiles, fine art, warehouses full of French and English antiques and beautiful, older homes that were restored with original details and wallpaper. My father, an engineer, also influenced me building the dream Victorian house. Many trips to the hardware stores and his studio where he designed and engineered greenhouses.

I gathered all these experiences and knowledge and felt the call to move West to Pasadena, California. In 2005, I joined the local Los Angeles home furnishings brand, Cisco Home. There I honed my skills and learned the art and craftsmanship of bench made furniture and the fundamentals of furniture design.

Years cultivating my design aesthetic while leading interior design projects and building long term relationships, I launched Overton House Design in 2018.

I am often gardening, mixing natural dyes, studying textile design, listening to music, sewing, reading paper books and drinking tea with friends, sharing meaningful conversations alongside my rescue cats and my little rescue dog, Petunia in South Pasadena.
